About the Artist

David Danz - Biography

From Illustrator To Artist.............

David Danz grew up in the town of Sonora, located in the foothills of Northern California. He discovered his love for the arts in Elementary and High School and began his journey of becoming an artist, by enrolling at Delta Junior College in Stockton where he studied drawing, printmaking and calligraphy. He completed his art education at the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena where he received his BFA in Illustration in 1983.

After working a few jobs to help support his family for a few years, he and his wife, Sandy, and family, moved back to Northern California, to Marin County, across the Bay from San Francisco.  With the help of Sandy as his studio manager and Artist Rep, he was eventually able to transition into full-time freelance illustration, deciding  to work exclusively in scratchboard, a medium that received the most attention in his portfolio.  Thus began a 35 year-long career as a full time freelance scratchboard illustrator.  David's high profile clients included Miller Coors, Apple Computer, Chevron, N.Y. Stock Exchange, General Mills, Hunt-Wesson Inc., Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank, William Sonoma and and many more. From 1994-2014, he was hired to conceptualize and illustrate the main focal illustration for the various flavors of Blue Moon Beer, prior to their redesign in 2015.

In 1992, David and his family relocated to the Gold Country town of Placerville, where he and Sandy finished raising their family and currently reside today. David has set aside his scratchboard tools to pursue his fine art, something that he has longed to pursue, throughout  his career as an illustrator.  He now uses his creative energy to create watercolor paintings in plein air, as well as in his home studio. His paintings are his interpretations of the beautiful scenes and landscape of Placerville, El Dorado County, and the Gold Country of the Sierra foothills, as well as places he travels to.
