I was born in Redwood City and grew up in Sonora, a quaint historic town located in the foothills of
Northern California. After high school, I attended Delta Junior College in Stockton, where I developed
my skills in drawing, calligraphy, and printmaking. I went on to attend Art Center College of Design in
Pasadena, California and graduated in 1983 with a B.F.A. in illustration. FIve months after Art Center
the first of my 4 children was born, thus as young ambitious illustrator fresh out of college, I worked a
variety of odd jobs while peddling my portfolio for freelance assignments. In 1985, I moved my family
to the San Francisco Bay Area and 4 years later was able to transition into full-time freelance illustration.
For a number of years I worked as an illustrative printmaker, pulling prints from carved and inked
blocks of wood & linoleum. However, in order to meet tight deadlines, I chose to set aside my carving
and engraving tools for scrapers and x-acto blades. Today, the majority of my illustrations are created
on scratchboard or clayboard, a medium in which I can achieve the same woodcut/wood engraving
look, in a fraction of the time, and without the need for bandages. (Carving tools are brutal on the hands).
Over the past 24 years, my illustrations have enhanced many ad campaigns, packaging designs and
corporate logos. They have been utilized in books, national and trade magazines, newspapers, catalogs,
and brochures. They have been reproduced on signage, posters, architecture, and a variety of novelty
and miscellaneous products. I am committed to producing the best work possible and meeting the
tightest deadlines presented. I strive to ensure that at the completion of each job, my clients consider
working with me a pleasure, and that my illustrations contribute to the success of their projects.
I currently reside and work from my studio on the outskirts of Placerville, which ironically is another historic town nestled in the Gold Country of
Northern California. El Dorado County is a great place to raise a family, although I admit that I am now an empty nester. In addition to working
as an illustrator, I continue to refine my skills as a printmaker, and I also embrace the challenge of plein air painting in the mountains and vineyards of
the surrounding areas . I am blessed to be able to work as an illustrator and artist. I consider my greatest success and accomplishment to be 27 years of
marriage to an incredible woman I met in highschool, and the raising of our 4 talented and ambitious children, all of whom are out making their own
mark in the world.
